On the North Broadway corridor in 80304, the NoBo Bus Stop Gallery is one of the easiest places in Boulder to see what the local art community is making right now. The warehouse-style space at 4895 Broadway is run by the NoBo Art District and shows rotating monthly exhibitions of work by district members and invited Front Range artists, with five retractable clear garage doors that open the gallery to the street whenever the weather cooperates.

The Bus Stop Gallery is a community-run exhibition space rather than a commercial gallery. It belongs to the NoBo Art District, the nonprofit collective of NoBo-based artists and creative businesses, and it serves as the district's main public-facing venue. The building itself is a former bus stop turned gallery — an open warehouse with five overhead clear garage doors that lift up to merge the indoor and outdoor space, which makes it especially good for openings, group shows, and First Friday crowds.

Who Shows There

The gallery rotates exhibitions monthly, drawing from the NoBo Art District's roster of more than 200 member artists plus invited guests from elsewhere along the Front Range. Shows tend to mix mediums and career stages, so a single visit might include painting, photography, sculpture, mixed-media, printmaking, and craft side by side. The same building also houses the NoBo Artisan Gift Shop, where smaller works and locally made goods are available to take home.

The broader NoBo Art District stretches up and down North Broadway and includes individual artist studios, additional galleries, and design-focused businesses. The Bus Stop Gallery acts as the district's central hub — the place where the work comes together and where most visitors start before walking out to other studios.

First Friday in NoBo

The single best time to visit is during First Friday, the monthly art walk that runs on the first Friday of each month from 6:00 to 9:00 PM (skipping January). The Bus Stop Gallery hosts opening receptions for its rotating shows during First Friday, and the rest of the NoBo Art District is open at the same time, with studios and galleries up and down Broadway accepting drop-in visitors. It is the most reliable way to see new work, meet artists, and get a feel for the district in a single evening.

Practical Details

Parking is in the lot behind the gallery, accessed through the Bus Stop Apartments. The gallery is a comfortable walk or short ride from much of NoBo and is right on the Broadway transit line.
